I have always enjoyed exercise as far back as I can remember.
My mum and dad always encouraged us into sport from a young age and I relished the competitiveness of sprinting on school sports day.
Gymnastics, running and dancing were my chosen activities and as I moved into secondary school I loved running as many lunchtime dance clubs as I could fit in.
Leaving school in the 80âs aerobics and step aerobics were fast becoming popular and I trained in my early 20âs in âExercise To Musicâ which allowed me to run classes in clubs, village halls and businesses where they offered sports facilities to their employees. I taught students in Hertford Regional and North Herts Colleges who needed to include learning exercise as part of their course and also students who wanted to exercise for their own personal fitness.
Having 3 boys by the age of 30 I juggled family life with classes and enjoyed setting myself goals with my passion for running to compete In 10k and 10 mile races initially and then in my mid 30âs training for the London marathon for 2 consecutive years - achieving a 3hrs 56 mins time.
I have always been passionate about encouraging others to exercise, giving advice to friends and family and helping them achieve their goals.
After having Breast Cancer at the age of 44 in 2014 I decided to retrain in âFreestyle Fitness Yogaâ and âIndoor Cyclingâ and moved into a number of local gyms to teach these classes alongside âBody Conditioning.â
In March 2020 when we first went into âLockdownâ I decided quickly that in order to keep things going for my club members and my own sanity I needed to start âLive Streamingâ on Facebook and eventually learning to do âZoomâ classes, something that I was totally unprepared for.
It also gave me the opportunity to progress my Yoga and study my Level 4 qualification which I am still currently working on.
Today, after almost a year of online classes and only short periods of time in the gyms I feel extremely lucky that I have been able to carry on working, even, if it is on a slightly different platform to the one I was use to.
